Jacques-Richard Chery

Painter, from Haiti

Chery was born in Cap Haitian, Northern Haiti.  He started painting while he was working as a barber.  He later opened a gas statiion and displayed his works there until his friend, Philome Obin, sugested that he should move to Port-au-Prince.  He became affiliated with Galerie Issa where he remained for several years.  In his later years/style, he enjoys painting children carrying large fruits, weddings and tap-taps brimming with people, using bright colors and humor.
