Louisiane St-Fleurant

Painter and sculptor, from Haiti

Saint Fleurant began painting and sculpting when she was fifty years old, not quitting till her eye sight failed her at eighty.  She was encouraged by writer and painter Maud Robart and artist Tiga Garoute to let her immagination run free. In 1972 the movement Saint-Soliel was born in the mountain area called Soissons-la-Montagne above Pettionville.  Tiga and Maud supported a cross-disciplinary community arts school at Soissons, supplying local residents with art supplies.  Louisiane not only gained international recognition but was the only female in the group.
