John Muafangejo
Printmaker, from Namibia
John Muafangejo became internationally known as a maker of woodcut prints, but also made linocuts and etchings. His work is recognisable by his strong portrayals of people and events combining text with images that reference his cultural heritage.
When his father died in 1955, his mother converted to Christianity and moved to Epinga. John followed her and attended Missionary schools. Following his studies, an American missionary, C.S. Mallory recognizing his artistic talent, helped him get ino the Rorke's Drift Arts and Craft Center in Natal, South Africa This institution played an important role in the develoment of South African art, and John distinquished himself there.
