Villages in America, 2003
oil on canvas,
dimensions: 30" x 40"
I looked back to Africa for this title and made comparisons with the way our rural homesteads are set up. A village is an organized set of dwellings. I realized that even though here in America there was a modern system, it probably began as a village. The busy highway reminded me of the simple network of pathways made by villagers who tread the same route every day to work. I have had a chance to drive on the New York highways and they are pretty busy with everyone traveling up and down. There is no telling who is going to run into you. That is how life is in any African village as well.
