Water Under the Bridge, 2003
oil on canvas,
dimensions: 36" x 48"

Water under the bridge is a common saying that is very relevant to my life. Half the time I am too serious and take life very seriously. I learned the hard way that some things are best let go of, so you can continue to make progress in your life. This is a painting that talks about the mistakes we make in life. Sometimes it's hard for us to forget the mistakes, either because they were so embarrassing, or our weaknesses were painfully exposed to the world. The idea here is that there are lessons to be learnt from the bad experiences. We learn from our mistakes and are made stronger, more capable to take the tough times. When you have learned from these experiences, only then can you move on with your life... then your mistakes are water under the bridge. That is the reason for the warmer colors as you move up through the painting - the sun radiates as a sign of hope and relief.
