The Clay Pot, 2000
oil on canvas,
dimensions: 39" x 54"

Clay pot making was considered the domain of women, and pots were a symbol of fertility. The potter is holding his pot tentatively as if almost caressing it. His eyes have a mystical look. It is his baby, his woman. In it we cook our meals to feed hungry mouths, just like a mother would do with her breast .The clay may have lost its functionality in our society but it is still a symbol of beauty, the womb of mother earth, the foundation of life.
